Whether you're new to skincare or trying to expand your collection, there will be times when you notice that the products you're using aren't working or aren't producing any noticeable results. We understand your dissatisfaction, but don't worry! We've put together a list of the most common reasons why your skincare isn't working.

Wrong ingredients mixing together

If you're attempting to treat multiple skin issues at once, you may be mixing ingredients that aren't compatible. If you're dealing with fine lines and acne, for example, you're probably using a retinol serum and an AHA/BHA treatment. They're powerful on their own, but when they're combined, they're a force to be reckoned with. Because both of these ingredients exfoliate the skin, they do not mix. When used together, they can irritate and dry out the skin. Instead, try mixing and matching them. You could use the retinol one night and then your AHA/BHA the next.

Using an active ingredient with a calming one, such as retinol and then a hyaluronic acid serum, is a good rule of thumb. It's critical that the products you use in your routine work together so you can see results and avoid irritation.

The skin requires a rest

If you have a lengthy skincare routine with multiple steps and products that you apply every night, your skin may be overworked. This could cause irritation as well as damage to your skin's barrier.

In reality, most of us would be better off with a more straightforward routine. It's nice to treat ourselves to a spa night with a 10-step routine now and then, but it's best to do so only once in a while. A short and simple routine is preferable for everyday use.

So, take a look at your skin and the products you've been using. Return to the basics, which consist of only a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. But don't forget to apply sunscreen first thing in the morning!

More time is required to demonstrate results

Aren't we all familiar with the advertisements and videos that show a skincare product promising to transform your skin overnight? Unfortunately, as much as we would like it to be true, it isn't. Skincare can take up to three weeks to show results because your skin cells go through their life cycle in that time.

If you're concerned that your serum didn't work the next day after you used it for the first time, be patient and consistent, and give it at least three weeks before deciding whether it's worth keeping in your routine.

We hope this clarified some misconceptions about your skincare routine! Skincare, as always, necessitates a great deal of tweaking and patience. Because our skin is constantly changing, it's important to be aware of what it requires.
